The Parade steps off at 10 am from the Town Garage on Bull Ring Road and ends at the Municipal Building on E Main St.. Trophies will be awarded.

Line up for the parade is between 9:15 and 9:45 am at the Town Garage. Decorate your float, car, bicycle, whatever you want and join us to celebrate the USA’s birthday!!

Absentee ballots may be turned in any time prior to the closing of the polls on Friday, June 6, 2025.

Polls will be open from 8:00am to 8:00 pm on Friday June 6, 2025 in the Community Room downstairs at the Municipal Building for people wishing to vote in person.

The Annual Town Meeting will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, starting at 9:00am in the Meeting Room upstairs.

The Board of Appeals consists of 7 members appointed by the Select Board. The Board of Appeals hears Administrative Appeals and Variance Appeals per the Town of Denmark Zoning Ordinance. Please refer to Section 8.8 of the Zoning Ordinance for further information. A member shall be a Town of Denmark legal residents or State of Maine legal residents paying real estate taxes within the Town of Denmark. The Appeals Board meets, when necessary, on the 2nd Thursday of the month.

Currently there are 4 openings on the Appeals Board, appointment of one member would help in meeting the 4 required for a quorum.

Allowable Burn Times and Dates:

The Maine Forest Service updates the fire danger daily at 9:00 am; no permits can be issued prior to that time. Permits cannot be issued for future dates.

Monday - Friday: Unless it is raining, burn permits will not be available prior to 5:00 pm on any weekday (even Low fire danger) due to limited availability of staff. Permits can be obtained after 5:00 pm. Saturday - Sunday: Burn permits typically will be available starting at 9:00 am on Low and Moderate days.

All permitted fires need to be extinguished by 12:00 am midnight. The Fire Warden or Forest Service reserves the authority to turn off and cancel issued permits due to changing weather conditions, responses to fires or operational issues at any time. Permit holders will be notified by telephone if that occurs.

What Fires Need a Permit

All fires are required to have a burn permit, except for campfires in established fire rings. A campfire is defined as a controlled area with rocks or blocks no larger than 36” in diameter used for warming or cooking burning wood only. A permit is required to burn brush, leaves/pine needles, construction debris or logging slash. A permit is still required even if someone is burning these materials in a campfire ring or burn barrel. Any questions or issues with burn permits should be directed to the Fire Warden at (207) 452-2300.

Officials for the Town of Denmark are pleased to announce that they have been awarded a Safety Grant by the Maine Municipal Association Workers Compensation Fund in the amount of $3,000.00. This grant will be used for the purchase of ergonomic equipment for the staff at the Town Office. Ergonomic chairs, keyboards, mouse, and phone headsets are examples of what will be purchased.

The Ed MacDonald Safety Grants and Scholarship provide financial assistance to members of the MMA Workers Compensation Fund to purchase safety equipment or services to assist in reducing the frequency and severity of workplace injuries. The grant programs are designed to prevent injuries and improve workplace safety for our Maine employees. The reduction in employee injuries also benefits the taxpayers by lessening lost hours at work, cost of claims and potential overtime expenses for employees who might have to fill in for injured co-workers.

The Maine Municipal Association has been awarding Safety Grants to members of the Workers’ Compensation fund since 1999. The Ed MacDonald Safety Grants and Scholarships are an example of a successful partnership that has been preventing workplace injuries by bestowing more than $6.9 million committed in the funding of 4,547 Safety Grants and 569 Scholarship. Together we are building safe communities.

Public Works - Equipment Operator

The Town of Denmark is seeking an Equipment Operator/Laborer to start immediately. Duties include operating trucks and sanders, heavy equipment to perform such duties as snow removal and road maintenance.  Other duties include seasonal repair and maintenance of municipal properties, mowing of cemeteries, Spring and Fall cleanup of roads, general maintenance of Public Work’s vehicles/equipment and municipal buildings. A full job description is posted on the Town’s website or you can request one by emailing the Town Manager.

The ideal applicant shall have; the ability to deal courteously with the public and to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other employees. Have knowledge of traffic laws, obtain knowledge of the geography of the Town, willing to work night and weekends during winter season and storms as needed.

An applicant applying for this position should be able to continuously maintain a Class B driver’s license and pass random drug testing. This position reports directly to the Public Work’s Director.

This is a Full Time, non-union, 40-hour week position, Monday – Thursday.  Benefits include, health insurance, vacation time, sick time, holiday pay, and matching retirement. The Town of Denmark offers competitive pay rate, this is an hourly rate of pay which will be based on experience and knowledge.

May 22, 2024 - FY25 District Budget Meeting - 7:00PM - Molly Ockett MS Gym

Selectman, Assessor & Overseer of the Poor , Alternate Member of the Board of Directors for SAD 72, Planning Board Members for one, two and three-year terms.

Applications will likely become available in early September. The bill was well intention but poorly written. It contains multiple loopholes, lacks financial information and the Taxation Committee determined it as “ought not to pass”. It will likely be repealed or replaced in the next Legislative Session.

During the most recent session, the Legislature passed L.D. 290 - “An Act To Stabilize Property Taxes for Individuals 65 Years of Age or Older Who Own a Homestead for at Least 10 Years.” This new law allows certain senior residents to stabilize, or freeze, the property taxes on their homestead. An applicant must be at least 65 years old, a permanent resident of the State, and must have owned a Maine homestead for at least ten years. As long as the individual files an application each year, the tax on their homestead is fixed at the amount assessed in the year prior to the initial application. Eligible residents may transfer the fixed tax amount to a new homestead, even between municipalities. The State will fully reimburse municipalities for lost revenue.

The law goes into effect on August 8, 2022, and applies to property tax years beginning April 1, 2023.\ Interested taxpayers will need to apply with the municipality where their homestead is located on or before December 1.

Maine Revenue Services is currently drafting forms and instructions, along with guidance for applicants and municipalities, which will be released in advance of the law’s effective date in August.

The Planning Board reviews and decides all development proposals and certain Shoreland Zoning permits in Denmark as required by the Town’s Zoning Ordinance. The Planning Board is also tasked with revising Denmark’s Zoning Ordinance and providing consistency with the Comprehensive Plan. The Planning Board meets the last Thursday of each month as necessary.

The water level of Moose Pond has been lowered in order to replace a culvert at the end of Denmark Road in Denmark.

Weather pending, the culvert project should be completed no later than April 15, 2024.

The Dam will return to normal operations thereafter.
